I'm a planner by nature - I make a list of items to pack before a trip, I plan our meals out each week, and I'm always writing things on my to-do list. My family is the same way. Even when we went on vacations together, every day was mapped out so that we knew exactly what we were doing when.
Having a plan can be a great thing - it gives you structure, helps you reach your goals, and keeps you on track for your clients - but it can also keep you so focused on the plan that you aren't open to the big, exciting, scary dreams that come your way.
Push the Boundaries
If you've been dreaming about doing things differently, go for it! You don't need to be tied to working the same way or always have or that everyone in your industry does. When I started Lemon and the Sea, I did lots of research into how other designers work, but I decided that I didn't want to simply follow that. Instead, I found my own way - a way that works for me and my clients. Push the boundaries a little bit. Experiment with what works for you and embrace it.
Try Something New
If you're afraid to step outside your comfort zone and try something new, you're not alone. Maybe there is a new type of project you'd like to try or you want to start an in-person event. No matter what you're dreaming of, allow yourself to explore it. Doing research and gauging interest doesn't mean you're committed to something, so go out and see what doing that new, exciting thing would mean.
Launch before You are ready
You know that thing you've been working on behind the scenes, but that you're not ready to share with the world? Launch it. If you're waiting until the time is right or everything is perfect, you'll never get there, so instead of continuing to push off your launch because of fear, just make that thing live and see what happens. If you aren't quite ready to start sharing with the whole world, find a team of beta-testers who will help you and give you feedback so that you can make some tweaks before you go full-force.
Dream big. Send that email. Reach out. You never know what might happen if you're willing to take the leap. And look out for a big announcement on Monday about how I made the leap!
