About a month ago, I received a text from my mom (thanks mom!) that my cousin might need a website as she started out on her career as a performer. After some texting and emailing back and forth with my cousin, it was clear that she needed a simple, amazing looking site that included all of her relevant work experiences and photos, that was also easy for her to update as she gained more experience. Sydney is an amazing performer, dancing since she could walk, singing since she could talk, and acting since someone first let her on a stage. She recently graduated from college and was starting out her professional career. Our one week project resulted in a beautiful site that she can include on her resume and that reflects her passion for her chosen career.
I start each project by gathering inspiration from my client's personality and Pinterest board. In this case, I knew Sydney well enough to know exactly the look she wanted after just a few emails. She also shared with me some of her favorite websites of other performers, so I could get an idea of what needed to be included in her new website.
I loved being able to see examples of what she liked and turn those into a site that had the same feeling, but was uniquely hers. We chose a bright, clean, and simple design that Sydney loved and would speak to her future employers.
I chose a clean typeface for the majority of her site and added some interest with a serif font for her logo. The contrast between these fonts adds interest without distracting from all of Sydney's accomplishments (and breathtaking photos). The full logo takes up more real estate on her site and is used for her header and home page. The alternative logo, simply her initials and a brushed circle, is easy to use on social media or print documents where the full header would be too large.
So much of Sydney's site is drive by the beautiful images that she provided me with. I can't take credit for any of these images, but they're worth sharing.
Once I had Sydney's resume, media mentions, and photos, I designed her new website in Squarespace.
These images don't do her site justice. Head over to the brand new Sydney Troxler website to check it out for yourself.
It takes a lot of trust and behind-the-scenes work to bring together a website and brand that reflects a client's personality. and Sydney gave great feedback every step of the way while allowing me the creative freedom to show her exactly what could be accomplished with her new website. It was a joy to work with Sydney and I'm thrilled with the final product!
"This was one of the simplest, quickest, and most helpful processes I have been through. Everything was spelled out easily for me (someone who has no idea how to make a website!) The correspondence between us was always quick and communicated well. I enjoyed collaborating and being able to make some of the design decisions myself while still having such strong guidance. I really feel like this will be a long-lasting tool for my career and it all happened so fast!"
