How This Copywriter Ditched DIY for a Conversion Optimized Website

One-Week Website Design

The Challenge:

When Jennifer of Untamed Creative and I decided to work together, she had a 'weird Wordpress situation' that worked, but took hours to make any updates to.

“Before I worked with Lemon and the Sea, my website was a DIY situation on WordPress. I bought a template and it was fine, but I spent an embarrassing amount of time making it look the way I wanted to it to. And then whenever I wanted to change something, I was afraid. I'm pretty good with technology and yet, anytime I would go in the backend of my WordPress site, I just ended up in the corner crying.”

"I spent probably more time than Friends was on the air figuring out how to make this template look like it wasn't a template and the tiny little tweaks that I wanted to make."

THE DESIGN PROCESS:

Phase 1: Prep

Based on Jennifer’s brand design and inspiration, I created a website strategy guide that included a moodboard to direct the project.

Phase 2: Propose

I also created a mockup of the homepage and used Jennifer’s feedback to make some small adjustments before jumping into Squarespace to develop the entire site.

Phase 3: Produce

The final design is a peaceful, quality and SEO-optimized website that makes it easy for clients to choose the right service for them and book a call.

“The process [of switching to Squarespace] was great. I didn't have to do a thing to switch it over. I just responded to the feedback requests and then I would get more to look at and it was just like really fun.”

FEATURES:

  • Squarespace 7.1 website

  • Fluid Engine design for a unique look

  • Custom design with CSS throughout

  • SEO optimization for ideal clients

Outcome:

After just one day together, she now has an “adult–emo” website that’s designed to convert clients and that will grow with her business and won’t leave her a “sweaty mess” trying to add blog posts and testimonials.

I now have a place where when I’m ready to start writing more content for myself I have a place to put it and not have to worry about is it going to be a struggle to put this where I want it to be? I at least know that when I’m ready to write stuff, or I need to add a new page or when I whatever, whatever, I can do it, and it’s not going to be a whole thing. Now I have the approval of a professional that this is going to work, that it looks good, and that potential clients are going to trust me.
