How to Fix 10 (or more) SEO Issues in 5 Minutes on Squarespace
For every website review I record and every client website that I work on starts with an SEO audit (because if no one can find your website, why bother making it look pretty?)
The #1 issue that pops up for all these sites is that the title tags are too long. (Hint: they should be 30-65 characters.)
Usually this happens because your website platform is automatically adding your website title to the page title that you've added, which makes it twice as long as you expected.
And while lots of SEO feels technical and annoying to fix, this issue is one you can resolve in less than 1 minute!
Here's how to fix it in Squarespace
Go to your website settings, then click on the Marketing tab and SEO Appearance. Then under Search Appearance, remove the "-- %s" from both the Pages and Items. Save your changes and voilà - your page titles have all shortened by 30+ characters.
In other website platforms, you will need to find the overall SEO settings and check to see if they are adding your site title and remove or turn off that option.
If you want to run a full SEO Audit on your own website, my favorite tool is Ubersuggest because it's accurate and gives helpful tips on improving your SEO.
