Case Study:
Crossbridge Education
Watch as Samantha and Rebekah chat about her website transformation during a Website Design VIP Day.
As your business grows and more referrals are coming your way, your website is the first point of contact and needs to make a strong first impression.
Rebekah Jordan is the educational consultant behind Crossbridge Education where she works with families to find creative solutions to their educational problems.
Rebekah dove back into consulting in 2020 after working as a school principal and found herself offering all kinds of educational support for families adjusting to life during a pandemic.
She DIYed her website on Squarespace to have a place to send referrals, knowing that it would need to evolve as she found her niche and brand.
“I first set up the website three years ago and it no longer accurately communicates what we do. I'm getting more and more client referrals whose first interactions with Crossbridge are through the website. Because it has had updates done by various assistants over the years, it no longer feels cohesive or professional. Not the first impression I want to make.”
After three years in business and a shift away from homeschool support, Rebekah knew that she needed a website that accurately communicated what she did and reflected her brand personality to all the families coming to her from referrals.
When she first created her website, Rebekah learned enough about Squarespace to create a simple design, but found that it took too long to update.
“I was trying to do things outside of my zone of genius because I was capable, not because I was the best person to do it. I have the tech skills or can teach them to myself, but I get lost in the small details (trying to remove the dates from the blog posts) and lose track of the big picture.”
Her website felt stale and disjointed.
“It feels disjointed and inconsistent in terms of design. It's obviously not professionally pulled together and the alignment is off in places, like the About page (sooooo frustrating to me, but I couldn't spend any more time on it). The copy is out of date, and it's too vague. The visual brand also doesn't express anything about who we actually are. It's all kind of meh and disappointing at this point.”
Rebekah wanted to hand off her website to a professional instead of wrestling with the tech on a weekly basis.
She had been listening to “Process to Profitability” for years and knew she wanted to work with Lemon and the Sea “because I trusted that you would integrate the knowledge you'd been sharing into the design strategy.”
It was essential that her website reflect her professional experience, but never feel like it was scaring families into hiring her. “I knew that our ‘sales ethics’ were aligned and that I wouldn't have to push back against someone persuading me to use tactics that weren't a good fit for my business philosophies.”
Rebekah loved the organized process and quick timeframe.
Part of my VIP Day process is to create a strategy guide that…
Captures the look and feel of your brand
Gives a sneak peek into the design elements for your website
Keeps all your brand info in one place
It’s helpful for me to use the brand design you already have and expand it into a website that looks and feels consistent.
The goal is to to create a unique design that makes it easy for right-fit leads to turn into clients.
“You genuinely want to meet your clients where they are and design in a way that captures their viewpoint.”
We created a design that fit Rebekah’s professional and knowledgeable brand, while still being approachable…and it was a huge transformation.
“OMG -- this is absolutely gorgeous! You totally nailed the vibe. I'm a little verklempt, honestly. It’s such a relief to hand this off to someone who’s good at this. You managed to put me and us on the page. Even if I had the technical know-how, I wouldn’t have been able to pull this all out of me.”
Rebekah feels confident knowing that her website is structured well and is creating a powerful first impression.
“The website hit the nail on the head and has been getting great feedback. I've been thrilled to be able to point people to my website without having to give the, ‘My website is due for an update, but …’ speech.”
The best part? She’s getting quality inquiries who understand her process and are ready to say yes.
“What I'm getting now is people who I know already have a sense of who I am, who I work with, and they've read the website and have already decided that they feel comfortable with my vibe before they reach out. That's huge. It's incredibly time saving for me. But it also saves my clients time and generally my clients are not people who have a lot of time to spare. So if I'm not the right choice, I want them to know that on the front end and not spend the time booking a call, talking with me just to find out that we're not the right emotional vibe. I think that's been profoundly helpful.”
