This Travel Agent's Website Started Attracting Fewer, Better-Fit Inquiries (on Purpose)
Website Customization
The Challenge:
Carli is honeymoon travel planner located in New Jersey with a passion for helping brides and grooms design the perfect romantic getaway effortlessly. She's run her business for four years, growing through word-of-mouth and referrals. She works with clients who respect her expertise and experience and want luxury travel experiences.
She had designed her website using a Squarespace template, but she was frustrated that it did not give her the elegant, luxury feeling she wanted her dream clients to associate with her brand. While her schedule was filled with clients and she was generating 150 or more inquiries per month, Carli found that her website was attracting people who did not understand the value of her service and weren't willing to pay her high-end prices. She needed her website to speak to her dream couples with larger budgets so that she could do her best work and make more time in her busy schedule.
Why do you do what you do?
“We help busy couples plan extraordinary travel experiences. I don't take on every client that comes my way. I try to make sure we are a good fit with a long consult and questionnaires.”
Who is your dream client?
“My clients who respect my expertise and have large budgets and high end taste!”
What your biggest goal for your business and website?
“I want to bring in more qualified leads.”
The Process:
Carli's goals for her website customization were to receive more inquiries from dream clients that were ready to invest in her service, increase her email list opt-ins, and educate potential collaborators about her business.
I began by conducting an audit of her website and making recommendations based on her goals and our past conversations. I then mocked-up the design changes for Carli to review and we refined the design over strategy calls and live workshop time. Once the design was approved, I developed each of the pages with the new layout and more elegant color palette.
Before launch, I tested the entire website and made sure the mobile version of the website reflected the desktop design. Since launching, I have continued to partner with Carli to finalize her website as she shares new resources so she has more time to concentrate on working with her clients.

What did you like best about working with Lemon and the Sea?
“I really liked how we did the video feedback and tutorials/walk through, much easier than typing it out or reading a novel."
The Outcome:
Carli no longer has website shame and is getting more inquiries from her dream clients, as well as more email subscribers. We launched during her biggest booking season of the year, so she was able to take advantage of her refreshed website right away. She has also spent time traveling to new locations in order to find the best honeymoon spots for her guests while her business runs in the background.

“I knew my website needed an update because I was getting unqualified leads and didn’t feel confident promoting my website, but I was uncertain of the process and what working with a designer would require from me. I didn’t have time to look at every revision, so I loved working with Samantha because she used video to walk through design decisions and give feedback, which was easier and took less time than typing out my responses. Since working together, I’ve seen more clients, I feel more confident about my website, and I’ve seen an increase in newsletter subscribers. I don’t have website shame anymore!”
