Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is your background?

I’ve been creating and designing since I was old enough to hold craft supplies. I knew that I wanted to pursue a career that allowed me to combine my love of creating with my passion for organization and helping others. I attended Clemson University and studied Architecture, where I learned a lot about design in general. My favorite part of every project was playing around with concepts and figuring how to mesh beautiful design with practical experience for each different client. After graduating, I took a job working for a family run business where I handled everything from everyday administrative tasks to updating and photographing products for their online store. I was able to design for every aspect of business from email marketing graphics to real estate advertisements, from product photography to website additions. When the time came to relocate for my husband’s career, I was excited to have the opportunity to take everything I’d learned and the projects I’d done to build a business that allowed me to design for people who are just as passionate about what they do as I am about my own work.

  2. How does your faith impact your business?

I believe that God has blessed me with this opportunity to run this business and to be a steward of it. I have learned that I must surrender all to Him in order to follow the path He has laid before me, both in business and in life. As my business continues to grow, I am constantly turning to Him for guidance and wisdom as I make choices that affect both me and my clients and readers. While I am open about my faith in my blog and it does affect my business decisions, I still work hard to provide great value for everyone that finds me. I also work hard to exhibit the fruits of the Spirit in everything I do. Although I’m still learning and I stumble often, I know that He is at work in this business and that it will grow according to His plan.

  3. Will my brand represent me?

I’d love to give an absolute yes here because most of the time that is the case. I work hard to get to know you and your business through conversations, questionnaires, and other communication, but you have to be willing to be open and honest as well. To achieve a brand that is truly a reflection of you, I have to get to know the real you and the bigger purpose behind the work you’re doing. I believe that we all have to let go of the idea that in order to succeed we need to follow the path of others and instead find our own way. Your brand needs to do the same thing and then you really will end up with something you love and that represents all that’s unique about you.

  4. How does the design process work?

I like to start any design by getting to know you. From there, I provide questionnaires and other homework for you to complete before I start designing. Then we take things step-by-step so that you get to give feedback along the way. I never want you to feel surprised by the final files delivered to you. And while there is a limit to revisions, I want to create a brand that you truly love. We’ll work together to get things just right and make sure that the final product reflects everything you want your brand to be. To learn more about how I design, you can read more here.

  5. What is branding, exactly?

Your brand is you, especially if you’re running a one person business. It’s what you’re about: your values, your message, and your approach. Branding is how you present yourself to the world: through email, social media, blogging, and anything else you do. Design takes all of that and makes it visual. This can include your logo, your color palette, your website, or your print documents. Your design should match your brand, not the other way around. This is why I take so much time to get to know you and your business before I jump into creating.

  6. Should I work with a professional?

Since this is what I do for a living, I may be a little biased, but I would say that the answer is yes. It’s okay to DIY when you’re just starting out and testing the waters, but once you’ve gotten serious about building a business, help from a professional will take you to the next level. Whether you’re feeling stuck and frustrated with attempting to do your own design, tired of piecing together things that you’ve created over the years and that are still “okay”, or you want a fresh start, I’m here to help you take control of your visual brand so that you can concentrate on doing what you do best.

  7. How do you get to know my style?

Before I start your project, we’ll get to know one another through a Skype conversation. This will give us both an idea if we’re the right fit. When you decide to work with me, I’ll provide you with some questionnaires to fill out. These will help you really dig into what you want for your brand and will help me understand your style and your needs. You’ll also create a Pinterest board filled with images that represent the visual brand you want to have. By looking over all of these things, I will get a really good idea of your style and what you want your brand to look and feel like.

  8. Why do you only design websites on Squarespace?

I love Squarespace! I want to make things as easy as possible for you as your business grows and you need to update your website. Squarespace makes updates and changes super easy. I can set all of the visuals in place and you don’t have to worry about a new page or blog post not matching the rest of your site. It’s easy to use and works really well because you never have to worry about plug-ins or updates. Squarespace also has a great customer service if you ever have questions. And don’t worry, I don’t just hand off your website and wish you well. I will record a video of your site in which I walk you through all the back end information and how you can update your website in the future.

  9. Can you build on my current brand?

Yes! If you have pieces that you love and that you feel represent your brand, I can definitely build on that foundation. 10. How are you different from other designers?

I really listen to you so that I can understand your business and the feeling that you want to convey to your potential clients. Since I do all the aspects of visual branding, including websites and print design, you can be sure that everything will be consistent.
